Alabama Concludes Day One of Blue Gray National Tennis Classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala. ––?The Alabama men’s tennis team (8-3) fell to Oklahoma (7-3), 4-3, in the opening round of the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic on Friday. The Crimson Tide will conclude its second-round match against Nebraska at 10:30 a.m. CT on Saturday, trailing 1-0 in the contest.

Due to a rain delay, singles matches were played first during the opening round of competition. If the match score was tied, 3-3, then doubles would be played to decide the match. The second round of competition was split between Friday and Saturday with doubles play taking place Friday night and singles action occurring Saturday.

Against Oklahoma

• Enzo Aguiard opened the day with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court two against Slipho Montsi
• The Sooners tied the score with a victory on court three, but back-to-back wins from Roan Jones on court five and Yair Sarouk on court six moved UA ahead 3-1
• Jones recorded a 6-4, 7-5 score, while Sarouk won 7-5, 6-4
• The Sooners would win courts one and four, respectively, to tie the match at 3-3
• Oklahoma captured the first doubles point, but Aguiard and Filip Planinsek even the attempt for the doubles point with a 6-3 win on court one
• The Sooners recorded a victory on court three, however, to clinch the doubles point and the match

Against Nebraska  

• Alabama and Nebraska competed in just doubles due to weather earlier in the day
• Samofalov and Sarouk would capture a win on court two with a 6-4 victory over Nic Wiedenhorn and Leo Linquet after the Cornhuskers won on court three
• Nebraska would win on court one to clinch the doubles point
