SEATTLE – Washington women’s tennis added two more transfer student-athletes to round out its roster for the 2024-25 season – Reece Carter and Sophie Luescher.

The two Pac-12 transfers will join incoming freshman Carina Syrtveit and grad transfer McKenna Koenig (USC) as the new Huskies. This incoming quad will be welcomed by four Husky returners – junior Erika Matsuda, redshirt sophomore Zehra Suko, and sophomores Alexia Jacobs and Catherine Gagnon.

Carter, a junior transfer from Arizona, will be joining the Dawgs for her final two years of eligibility. She comes to Seattle after two years at Arizona where she was a member of the All-Pac-12 First Team during her freshman and sophomore season.

“We are so excited to have Reece joining us in the fall,” Head Coach Robin Stephenson said. “She is someone that I have been so impressed with since junior tennis and have seen her improve and thrive in the college tennis environment. She is the perfect fit for our program and the goals we have going forward. Reece is a fierce competitor and loves the team atmosphere. She has a lot of high-level experience that she will bring in here and I have no doubt that she will help lead the program to new heights in her two years here. She has the belief in our vision and the willingness to put the work in to accomplish the goals she has for herself and the team. She also shares in our values and is an amazing person that will fit in with our team culture right away. We cannot wait to get her here and to start working with her.”

During the 2023-24 season, Carter picked up 14 singles wins and 15 doubles victories, including four singles and five doubles wins over ranked opponents.

She played at No. 1 singles and doubles for the majority of her sophomore season where she earned her highest-ranked singles win of the year over then-No. 33 Loudmilla Bencheikh (Alabama) and a doubles win over then-No. 26 Roisin Gilheany/Dana Guzman (Oklahoma).

Carter earned a 22-7 singles record her freshman season for the Wildcats where she primarily played No. 1 and No. 2 and led her team in dual singles wins (17).

Carter is from Victoria, B.C., Canada and trained at Bear Mountain before making the move down to Tucson, Ariz. She reached a career-high of 98 in ITF juniors.

“Coming into UW for my last two years is such an exciting and amazing feeling,” Carter said. “I can’t wait to compete and train with my new teammates and make memories…
