DURHAM – The Duke women’s tennis team received its 34th-consecutive bid to the NCAA Team Championships and enter the event for the 35th time in program history, the NCAA announced Monday during its 2024 selection show. The Blue Devils will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for the first and second rounds May 4-5.
No. 21 Duke is set to face 63rd-ranked East Tennessee State (17-7) in first-round action on Saturday, May 4 inside Barksdale Stadium. The match is slated for a 10 a.m. start as the Blue Devils face the Bucs for the second time in program history.
In addition to Duke and East Tennessee State, host 16th-ranked Tennessee (18-7) will face Murray State (17-5) in the first round at 1 p.m. The winner of each first round match will play in second-round action Sunday, May 5 at 1 p.m., in Knoxville.
The winner of each site advances to super-regional competition May 10-12. Each super-regional site will feature two teams playing a single-elimination format. The super-regional winners advance to the NCAA Championship at the Greenwood Tennis Center in Stillwater, Okla., where the eight teams will compete for the national championship May 17-19. The event will be hosted by Oklahoma State.
The Blue Devils enter the NCAA Tournament with a 15-9 overall record and are coming off advancing to the quarterfinals of the ACC Championship. Duke features eight ranked wins, including victories over No. 13 UCLA and No. 14 NC State.
In 34 appearances in the NCAA Tournament, the Blue Devils have tallied an 80-33 record for a 70.8 winning percentage, advanced to the NCAA Semifinals 11 different times and won the 2009 NCAA Championship. Ashworth has guided the Blue Devils into the NCAA Tournament each of his 27 seasons at Duke, including nine semifinal trips and the 2009 title.
Duke currently features five ranked singles players – Shavit Kimchi (64), Emma Jackson (89), Ellie Coleman (93), Iuliia Bryzgalova (100) and Katie Codd (106). As a team, the Blue Devils are ranked No. 21.
Tickets for the NCAA First and Second rounds will be $5 plus a $1 processing fee online and at the gate for ages three and up. Ages two and under receive free admission. All Duke students will be admitted free with a valid student ID.
