BATON ROUGE, La. – The sixth-ranked and No. 2 seed Tennessee men’s tennis team dominated 25th-ranked and No. 7 seed Florida, 4-1, on Friday afternoon to advance to the SEC Tournament Semifinals at the LSU Tennis Complex.
In doubles action, the fourth-ranked duo of Johannus Monday and Angel Diaz was quick to rout UF’s 23rd ranked pair of Nate Bonetto and Aidan Kim, 6-1, on court one. Filip Apltauer and James Newton followed with a 6-2 effort over Jeremy Jin and Kevin Edengren at the No. 3 spot to give the Vols a one-point advantage.
UT (22-5) won five of its first sets in singles play over the Gators (13-11). Filip Pieczonka rolled to a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Adhithya Ganesan on court four. No. 33 Shunsuke Mitsui blanked Aidan Kim, 6-0, in his first set at the No. 2 spot, then battled to win his second set, 7-5, to give Tennessee a 3-0 lead. Florida posted its only point of the day with a win on court five. Second-ranked Monday sealed the deal in 6-2, 7-5 fashion over No. 52 Jeremy Jin atop the lineup.

With their win over UF’s 23rd-ranked pair in the quarterfinals, Monday and Diaz registered their 10th win over a ranked opponent this season. The duo holds a .789 winning percentage in 2024 dual match action.
SHUN HITTING MILESTONES
Mitsui’s 6-0, 7-5 win on Friday marked his 25th singles victory in 2023-24 and his 20th of dual-match play this season. The junior is on a five-match winning streak and holds a 19-5 mark at the No. 2 spot.
