LOS ANGELES – USC men’s tennis (6-13, 1-3 Pac-12) was led by its senior class as it earned its first win in Pac-12 play against California (10-8, 3-2 Pac-12) on Friday, Apr. 12.
Cal came out strong to start as it won on courts No. 1 and No. 2 in doubles to take the doubles point.
USC rallied though, as it won all four singles matches to clinch the match 4-1 against the Bears.
In their last home matches at USC, graduate student Sam Rubell finished up with a No. 5 singles win, 6-3, 6-2 and senior Lodewijk Weststrate, on court No. 2, clinched the match in a three-setter as he won, 6-1, 2-6, 6-0.
At No. 1 singles, #82 Peter Makk won the first match of the day for the Trojans, bringing down his opponent 7-5, 6-2. Freshman Volodymyr Iakubenko was the other victor on the day, as he won 7-5, 6-2.
The Trojans are back in action as they compete against Stanford at 2 pm tomorrow at the Marks Tennis Stadium.
