Madison, Wis. – The No. 25 Wisconsin women’s tennis team will have back-to-back matches this Saturday, Mar. 16, against Minnesota at 12 p.m. and Milwaukee at 5 p.m.
1. SCOUTING THE GOPHERS: Guided by Lois Arterberry in her inaugural season as head coach, Minnesota is coming in with a season record of 9-5 and remains undefeated in conference play. Both the Badgers and Golden Gophers are tied for first in the Big Ten.
2. SCOUTING THE PANTHERS: The UW-Milwaukee team, under the guidance of first-season head coach Mark Goldin, is currently riding a wave of two consecutive wins.
Sophomore Nadiia Konieva stands out as the team’s leading player, boasting an individual record of 10-1 for the 2024 season.
3. BADGERS IN THE RANKINGS: In another week of ITA Rankings, the team now sits at No. 25, jumping four spots up from last week. Sophomore, Maria Sholokhova, checks in at No. 69 in the ITA singles rankings.
4. THE LAST SERVE: The Badgers had a successful weekend of Big Ten competition, taking down both Purdue and Indiana. The team is now 2-0 in conference play and sits atop the Big Ten.
Facing Purdue, the team started with a competitive advantage with the Boilermakers forfeiting their No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. Rosie Garcia Gross and Maria Sholokohva had stand-out performances, defeating their opponents in straight sets to clinch the match for the Badgers, 4-0.
New doubles pairing, Alina Mukhortova and Ava Martin, proved their dominance on Sunday against Indiana by breezing through their match to win, 6-2. Ariel Johnson and Taylor Cataldi served up great matches to win in quick sets of 6-0, 6-3.
