MADISON, Wis. – The No. 29 Wisconsin women’s tennis team travels to Indiana to begin Big Ten play against Purdue, Mar. 9 at 12 p.m., and Indiana, Mar 10 at 12 p.m.
1. SCOUTING THE BOILERMAKERS: Purdue enters with a season record of 7-3, led by junior Carmen Guevara, who boasts an individual record of 9-0.
Laura Giltz leads the Boilermakers as head coach, marking her 17th season with the program.
2. SCOUTING THE HOOSIERS: Head coach Ramio Azcui has been a cornerstone of the program since 1992. Initially serving as associate head coach for twenty-four years, he has now led the team as head coach for the past seven years.
Indiana is currently 6-8 in their season, defeating Cornell over the weekend.
3. BADGERS IN THE RANKINGS: Wisconsin has seen a consistent appearance on the ITA rankings, coming in at No. 29 this week. After a dominant performance last weekend, Maria Sholokhova jumped seventeen spots in the rankings to secure No. 69.
4. THE LAST SERVE: The Badgers had a successful weekend, sweeping both Boise State and DePaul.
Against the Broncos, the team came out strong to win the doubles point in two matches of 6-1. In singles, each player commanded their matches to win in straight sets.
Facing DePaul, Maria Sholokhova and Alina Mukhortova staged a remarkable comeback at 4-4 to secure the doubles point. With swift victories in their matches by Taylor Catladi, Maria Sholokhova, and Alina Mukhortova, the team played with played till clinch to sweep DePaul, 4-0
