Women’s Tennis Sweeps NAU to Close Homestand

TEMPE, Ariz.- No. 33 Arizona State (8-6, 0-2 Pac-12) ended their three-match homestand with a 4-0 victory over in-state rival Northern Arizona (3-6, 0-1 Big Sky) on Wednesday at Whiteman Tennis Center. The Sun Devils led from start to finish to complete the sweep and regain momentum ahead of their first Pac-12 road trip this weekend.
 
“It’s nice. Obviously we had a pretty tough schedule there,” head coach Sheila McInerney said. “We’ve had Oklahoma State and Ohio State and you’ve got Baylor, Stanford and Cal. I think it was nice to get the W because we know we’ve got two really, really tough road matches. USC, I think is in the top eight or nine. I think UCLA is just as good, if not better than SC. They just beat them, so they’re pretty equal. So, it’s going to be a tough task. But I think it’s nice when you come away with a win, particularly when we’ve lost a few in a row.”
 
ASU started the day strong, winning the first two doubles matches to take an early lead over the Lumberjacks. Senior Marianna Argyrokastriti and freshman Emilija Tverijonaite tallied their second straight doubles win by a score of 6-4 on court three.
