EAST LANSING, MICH. – The nation’s 19th ranked Spartans will play host to a double header against Middle Tennessee State and Bellarmine on Sunday, Feb. 4 at noon and 3 p.m. respectively in the MSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Spartans will continue their six-match homestand that began with a pair of wins in a double header Friday, defeating Ball State and Boise State, 4-0 and 5-2 respectively to move to 6-0 on the season.
MSU will be without freshman Aristotelis Thanos departed for his homeland Greece for the Davis Cup, known as the World Cup of tennis, where he will represent his native nation over the weekend alongside the likes of World No. 7 Stefanos Tsitsipas. On Saturday, Thanos defeated world No. 265 singles player in the world, Nicholas David Ionel, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.
Scouting Middle Tennessee State
The Blue Raiders enter Sunday’s match 5-2, having received votes in the latest ITA team rankings and knocked off No. 22 Mississippi State on Friday. The two losses have come at the hands of a talented Oklahoma State and a sweep against No. 8 Duke.
Three Blue Raiders are ranked in the ITA fall singles rankings: Leo Raquin at No. 25, Marcel Kamrowski at No. 47, and Ondrej Horak at No. 105, but none are ranked in doubles.
Series History vs. Middle Tennessee State
Middle Tennessee State owns the all-time series with the Spartans, having won each of the four meetings, including the lone matchup in East Lansing, 5-2 on Feb. 2022.
Scouting Bellarmine
Bellarmine comes to East Lansing 1-5 in 2024, having lost each of their last four duals. In the 2023 season the Knights set program records in total wins (165) and singles wins (125) as they went 14-10 on the season.
Series History vs. Bellarmine
The Spartans’ 5-2 win over the Knights at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center on Jan. 21, 2023 is the lone meeting between the two sides.
Still Perfect
Five Spartans remain undefeated in singles play and of the nine doubles teams that have notched wins, five are also yet to drop a set.
Sebastien Collard leads the way for the deep MSU lineup, 5-0 in singles in his first season in the Green and White with a 3-1 record in doubles so far. The other grad transfer, Ronald Hohmann III, moved to 5-0 in doubles play.
