TEMPE, Ariz.- Sun Devil Women’s Tennis (3-0) remains undefeated in the 2024 season after their 7-0 victory over Fresno State (0-1) on Saturday at Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe.
“I thought we played really well today, Fresno State has got a good, solid team,” head coach Sheila McInerney said. “We knew it’d be a tougher matchup and I think it sets us up well going into next weekend.”
ASU took a 1-0 lead against Fresno State by winning the opening doubles match with victories on courts two and one.
In singles, reigning Pac-12 Player of the Week Giulia Morlet put the Sun Devils ahead 2-0 on court one, winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Senior Rachel Hanford earned ASU’s third point with a 6-3, 6-0 victory on court five. The Sun Devils clinched the victory against Fresno State after Senior Marianna Argyrokastriti won her court three match 6-1, 6-1 to tally the fourth point. Freshman Emilija Tverijonaite secured ASU’s fifth point, winning 6-0, 6-1 on court four. The Sun Devils led by six points courtesy of senior Rachel Hanford’s 6-3, 6-3 victory on court six. On Court two, sophomore Chelsea Fontenel won both sets in a tiebreak, 7-6 (6-2), 7-6 (6-3), to complete the sweep.
