CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – Wake Forest’s Casie Wooten was named the first 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, Duke’s Brianna Shvets and Iuilia Bryzgalova were tabbed the Women’s Tennis Doubles Team of the Week and North Carolina’s Thea Rabman earned Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week accolades.

Wooten picked up two ranked wins in Wake Forest’s weekend at the Carolina Kickoff, where a field of multiple teams across the NCAA competed in hidden duals. The Torrance, California, native, who is currently ranked No. 47, defeated No. 67 Maria Sholokhova of Wisconsin, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, before securing an upset over Auburn’s No. 34 DJ Bennett, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Shvets and Bryzgalova’s doubles win was key for the No. 15 Blue Devils, who took down SMU, 5-2, to open the indoor season. Trailing 5-3 and facing a couple of match points, the pair evened the match at 5-5, before trailing again, 6-5. The Duke duo came back to win, 7-4, in a tiebreaker to clinch the key doubles point.

Rabman, who made her collegiate debut for the top-ranked Tar Heels, picked up a 6-0, 6-3 win in the No. 5 singles position in UNC’s sweep of Elon, 7-0. The freshman is currently ranked 32nd in the nation.
