KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Coming off its fourth consecutive Super Regional appearance, Tennessee men’s tennis is eager to showcase its youthful talent for the 2024 dual season as head coach Chris Woodruff announced the team’s full spring schedule Monday.
Concluding the 2023 spring season ranked No. 9 in the final Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s team rankings, Tennessee’s 2024 squad features six newcomers, as well as a trio of returning players from the 2022-23 roster – three-time ITA Singles All-American and 2023 SEC Player of the Year Johannus Monday, two-time All-SEC performer Shunsuke Mitsui and graduate Angel Diaz.
UT’s spring slate consists of 22 dual matches, with 14 in Knoxville and eight on the road. The Vols will face 11 top-25 opponents (according to the ITA final 2023 team rankings), including five top-10 foes this spring.
Prior to the start of the dual match season, the Vols will host the annual Orange & White scrimmage on Jan. 6.
Tennessee’s season-opening match comes against Furman in Knoxville on Jan. 12, followed by another home contest versus Penn on Jan. 13.
The following weekend, the Vols will go head-to-head with Michigan (Jan. 18) and Wake Forest (Jan. 21), both of which finished in the ITA top 25 last season.
The 2023 ITA Kickoff Weekend will be hosted in Knoxville for the third time in three seasons, running Jan. 27-28. South Florida, Oklahoma and Washington will travel to Rocky Top, with the winner advancing to the ITA Indoor National Championships, to be held at Columbia University in New York City, Feb. 16-19.
The Big Orange will kick off February with a road contest against TCU on Feb. 4, marking the sixth matchup between the Vols and the Horned Frogs since 2019, with TCU holding a 3-2 advantage in the previous five matches of the rivalry.
Tennessee will travel to the Big Apple to take on Columbia on Feb. 9, before wrapping up non-conference play with a doubleheader versus The Citadel at home on Feb. 26.
Beginning in March, UT will play host to Georgia (March 1) and Arkansas (March 3) to kick off SEC competition. The next weekend, Auburn and Florida will make a trip to Knoxville on March 8 and 10, respectively, before Tennessee hits the road to face Texas A&M (March 15) and LSU (March 17).
The Vols will travel to Nashville to play in-state foe Vanderbilt on March 24, before welcoming Alabama on March 29 and South Carolina on March 31 for Senior Day.
