State Concludes Action At ITA National Fall Championships

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Members of the Mississippi State women’s tennis team concluded their time at the ITA National Fall Championships at the Barnes Tennis Center.

MSU’s doubles tandem of Alexandra Mikhailuk and Athina Pitta fell to Melodie Collard and Annabelle Xu of Virginia 6-3, 6-2 in the consolation round of 16 qualifiers.

“Today was much better,” head coach Chris Hooshyar said. The result still hurts, but we set expectations of ourselves for how we wanted to compete. We had chances especially in the first set, but we weren’t able to capitalize. Virginia played well and neutralized our aggressive tactics effectively. We set up that we were going to play to win, instead of playing not to lose like yesterday. We did that and I’m proud.”
