TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– Matias Ponce De Leon and Roan Jones emerged victorious in an all-Alabama final on the last day of the Crimson Tide’s Four-In-The-Fall tournament.
Both Crimson Tide pairs reached the finals after two rounds of competition. UA had dropped just one singles match off a retirement prior to Sunday as Ponce De Leon and Jones, playing for Alabama Crimson, and Yair Sarouk and Andrii Zimnokh, playing for Alabama White, earned a spot in the finals.
Each program had four players competing in pairs throughout the tournament. Each pair played a total of three matches each round, one doubles and two singles. The duo that won two of the three matches advanced in the compass draw.
“Another good weekend of competition for our players who are developing their games and ability to compete throughout the fall. We are so lucky and grateful to have so many supportive people to host events as playing at home is invaluable.
“It’s not often you have teammates play against one another but it’s always good to see how they compete in these moments and what type of statement they want to bring into the locker room. We will continue to sharpen our tools and commitment over the next 10 days as we prepare for regionals.”
