TUSCALOOSA, Ala. –– Freshman Andrii Zimnokh recorded a pair of doubles wins and a singles victory to pace the Alabama men’s tennis team on the second day of competition at the SEC/Big Ten Challenge.
Additionally, Zimnokh’s partner Yair Sarouk finished the day undefeated as he won by default in his singles matchup. Filip Planinsek and Matias Ponce De Leon went 1-1 in doubles, while Planinsek captured a come-from-behind win in singles to round out the day.
The Southeastern Conference has won 31 of 42 matches over two days of competition.
The Competition
- The Crimson Tide won three of four doubles matches as Sarouk and Zimnokh went 2-0 on the day
- Sarouk and Zimnokh defeated Mutjaba Ali-Khan and Daniel Labrador 6-4 before taking a default win over Alex Cairo and Mert Oral
- Planinsek and Ponce De Leon downed Alesksa Krivokapic and Stefan Simeunovic 6-4
- After an opening set tiebreaker, Zimnokh fought his way to a two-set, 7-6 (2), 6-2 victory over Oral
- Planinsek recorded a come-from-behind win in singles play, battling Bickersteth through a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 match
