Huskers Drop Match to OSU in Quarterfinals

West Lafayette, Ind. – Despite winning the doubles point, the No. 10 seed Nebraska women’s tennis team concluded play at the Big Ten Tournament, as the Huskers fell to No. 2 seed Ohio State 4-1 on Friday afternoon.
 
Competition began with doubles play. On Court 2, the team of Isabel Adrover Gallego and Ana Carmen Zamburek dropped the match to Ohio State’s Isabelle Boulais and Shelly Bereznyak, 6-1. Closely contested matches played out on Courts 1 and 3. In the No. 1 position, the No. 45 doubles duo of Samantha Alicea and Raphaëlle Lacasse got their 16^th win as a team and defeated No. 33 doubles team Irina Cantos Siemers and Sydni Ratliff, 6-3. On Court 3, Lucy Loy and Vivien Sandberg clinched the doubles point when they bested Kolie Allen and Danielle Willson, 7-5.  
 
Singles play began with the Huskers leading 1-0. On Court 5, Anfisa Danilchenko dropped the match to Buckeyes’ Lucia Marzal, 6-1, 6-2, making the overall score 1-1.  On Court 6, Jillian Roa was bested by No. 94 Bereznyak, 6-1, 6-3. The Buckeyes grew their lead 3-1 on Court 1 when Adrover Gallego fell to No. 20 Irina Cantos Siemers, 6-3, 7-6 (1). Courts 2, 3 and 4 all went to three sets. Ohio State clinched the match on Court 3 when Ana Carmen Zamburek was defeated by Isabelle Boulais, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. The matches on Courts 2 and 3 went unfinished.
