Badawi Claims Singles Win as Tennis Falls to Northwestern

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — The Rutgers women’s tennis team (9-8, 0-6 B1G) dropped a 4-1 decision to Northwestern (8-11, 4-3 B1G) on Sunday afternoon at Piscataway High School.  

The Wildcats claimed the doubles point before winning three singles matches to seal the win. Amira Badawi earned her third Big Ten win of the season with a victory on the third singles court.  

“Fighting is the way,” Badawi said. “You never know what can happen. You just have to focus on every singles point, believe and it will come.” 

Doubles 

Northwestern came away with the first point of the day, picking up decisions on doubles courts No. 1 and 2.  

The pair of Mai Nguyen/Minchae Kim were up 5-2 when the Wildcats claimed the point. 

Singles 

Badawi came up with the dominant two-set win on the third court, 6-4, 6-4. She now boasts an 8-4 overall record as well as a 3-3 mark in conference play. She has won six of her last four matches.  

Mai Nguyen also picked up the second set on court No. 4 before NU clinched the match.
