Iowa City, IA – Despite picking up the doubles point, the No. 63 Nebraska women’s tennis team (12-4, 1-2 Big Ten) dropped the match against No. 54 Iowa (7-6, 2-1 Big Ten) 4-1 at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex on Saturday afternoon.
Competition began with doubles play. In the No. 3 position, the duo of Lucy Loy and Anfisa Danilchenko dropped the match against Iowa’s Barbora Pokorna and Pia Kranholdt, 6-4. On Court 2, Isabel Adrover Gallego and Ana Carmen Zamburek bested Daianne Hayashida and Vipasha Mehra, 6-4. In the No. 1 position, the undefeated team of Samantha Alicea and Raphaëlle Lacasse got their tenth straight doubles win and clinched the doubles point against Marisa Schmidt and Samantha Mannix, 6-4
The competition continued in singles play. On Court 5, Danilchenko fell to Pokorna, 6-1, 6-1. Lacasse was bested by Mehra on Court 4, 6-2, 6-2. In the No. 6 position, Jillian Roa dropped the match against Kranholdt 6-3, 6-1, putting the Hawkeyes within one point of victory. In the No. 2 spot, Carmen Zamburek was bested by Samantha Mannix, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3. The matches on Courts 1 and 3 went unfinished.
