TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 67 Michigan State men’s tennis team fell to No. 69 Liberty, 4-1, Saturday afternoon on the second day of action at the Diablos Tennis Tournament on the campus of Arizona State University.
The Flames (6-7) opened the dual by taking the doubles point in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, and won the first two singles matches at No. 4 and No. 1 to open up a 3-0 lead. On the fourth court, Anthony Pero fell to Deji Thomas-Smith, 6-0, 6-3, and on the top court, No. 29 Ozan Baris lost to Josh Wilson, 6-4, 6-2.
Luke Baylis got the Spartans (5-7) on the board with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Christian Worst at No. 3 singles, but Rafael Marques Da Silva clinched the win for the Flames by topping Max Sheldon on the second court, 7-5, 6-3.
The fifth and sixth singles matches went unfinished.
The Spartans will return to action for the third and final day of the Diablos Tennis Tournament on Sunday.
