No. 8 USC men’s tennis defeated crosstown rival UCLA 4-0 today, March 1, making that the second time this season that the Trojans have swept the Bruins. Wednesday’s victory extends UCS’s win streak against the Bruins to seven matches.
The Trojans started the match by snagging the doubles point, snapping a six-game doubles point losing streak dating back to their February 4th match against Florida. The Trojans scored points on court one from No. 17 Stefan Dostanic and Bradley Frye and on court three from Wojtek Marek and Samuel Rubell.
Moving into singles, the Trojans grabbed quick points on courts five and six, where Lodewijk Weststrate on six and Bradly Frye on five triumphed in straight sets over their opponents. The victory marked Weststrarte’s fifth consecutive win, while Frye snapped a five-match losing streak. The Trojans rounded out their victory with a straight set victory on court two from Peter Makk, who extends his win streak to seven matches. Action on courts one, three and four was suspended, with Stefan Dostanic ahead on center court.
A handful of Trojans will see action this weekend at the Pac Coast doubles tournament in La Jolla, before the team returns home to host Baylor on Friday, March 10th at Marks Stadium.
