Stanford Knocks Off Defending Champs

AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Angelica Blake returned to the singles lineup, clinching No. 22 Stanford’s 5-2 win at two-time defending national champion Texas on Saturday.

Capturing wins in five of the six singles matches, the Cardinal improved to 6-2 on the season, while handing the eighth-ranked Longhorns (8-2) their first home loss of the year.

After dropping the doubles point, Stanford reeled off three straight wins at singles before Blake clinched the match on court three.

Stanford has now won five of its previous six matches against Texas dating back to the spring of 2017.

Up next, Stanford opens Pac-12 play on the road at Colorado on Friday, March 3 at 10 a.m. PT.
