GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – Georgia Tech’s Marcus McDaniel earned the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week nod while McDaniel and his teammate Andres Martin were named the ACC Men’s Doubles Team of the Week.
McDaniel posted an undefeated 3-0 week in both singles and doubles. The junior recorded two ranked wins at the No. 2 singles spot against No. 12 Connor Thomson of eighth-ranked South Carolina, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, and No. 8 Philip Henning of 13th-ranked Georgia, 6-3, 6-4. The Vacaville, California, native moved to the No. 1 spot as Georgia Tech swept The Citadel, adding his third singles victory, 6-0, 6-2.
Teaming up with No. 60 Andres Martin at the No. 1 doubles spot, McDaniel helped take down the third-best doubles pair of Connor Thomson and Toby Samuel of South Carolina in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5), for the first ranked victory of the weekend. Martin and McDaniel went on to defeat Georgia’s No. 24 pair, Ethan Quinn and Trent Bryde, 6-2, to secure the doubles point for the match. McDaniel added another doubles victory at the No. 3 spot with Robert Bauer over The Citadel, 6-1.
