Penn State Women's Tennis Hits The Road To Visit James Madison University


Women’s Tennis Continues Road Slate at James Madison 

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA. – The Penn State women’s tennis team (2-3) heads back on the road for a matchup with James Madison University (1-2) in Harrisonburg, Va. on Saturday at 2 p.m. ET.  

Scouting the Nittany Lions 

Sophomore Sofiya Chekhlystova has posted a 3-2 record so far this season in the No. 1 singles bout for the Nittany Lions, which includes matchups against three opponents, including one win. Additionally, Gabrielle O’Gorman and Yvonna Zuffova have held steady, posting 3-1 and 3-2 records respectively in singles, competing in the No. 2 and No. 3 bouts primarily. 

In doubles action, O’Gorman and Chekhlystova lead the way for the Nittany Lions, posting a 3-2 mark, playing primarily in the No. 1 and 2 positions.  

Last Time Out 

After the Nittany Lion’s hard-fought showing at ITA Weekend Kickoff, they will look to bounce back against the Dukes. In their first day of play in Raleigh, Penn State fell to No. 8-ranked NC State. Penn State came back to battle Northwestern on Sunday for day two of the event. Duo, O’Gorman and Chekhlystova defeated their opponent in doubles play and Penn State defeated Northwestern in three of six singles matches with wins from Chekhlystova, Zuffova and O’Gorman. The final match score was settled 4-3 in favor of Northwestern. 

Scouting James Madison 

The Dukes Penn State after opening their season with a 1-2 mark. James Madison is coming off a 0-2 weekend after falling to No.9 Virginia (0-4) and Arkansas (1-4) last weekend at ITA Kickoff Weekend. JMU is set to host Cornell on Sunday, Feb. 6 after their matchup against Penn State on Saturday afternoon.
