Women’s Tennis Earns Individual and Team ITA Academic Awards

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State women’s tennis team earned 2022 Division I ITA All-Academic Team honors, while seven individual Spartans also captured ITA Scholar-Athlete accolades, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced Monday.

Monique Karoub, Lauren Lemonds, Tia Mukherjee, Maja Pietrowicz, Marlo Schiffman, Nicole Stephens and Jennifer Timotin were all recognized as ITA Scholar-Athletes. For Pietrowicz and Stephens, this is their fourth time receiving the honor, while Karoub, Lemonds and Mukherjee are three-time recipients. Schiffman garners the award for the second-straight season, with Timotin getting the honor for the second time in her career after previously earning it in 2019-20.

As a program, MSU has now been named an ITA All-Academic Team for the ninth-consecutive year.

In 2022, 1,517 Division I women’s student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete and 250 women’s tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.

To be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, one must have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and be listed on the institutional eligibility form. To be named an ITA All-Academic Team, programs must have a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.00 scale).
