Fenty/Ehrenschneider Advance to NCAA Doubles Round of 16

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The No. 27-ranked pair of Andrew Fenty and Nino Ehrenschneider of the University of Michigan men’s tennis team opened the first round of the NCAA Doubles Championship with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Oregon’s No. 17-ranked duo of Joshua Charlton and Quinn Vandecasteele on Tuesday (May 24) at the Khan Tennis Center.
The Wolverines went up 5-1 over the Ducks duo in the first set. Then Oregon won the next two games before three straight serves by Ehrenschneider that could not be returned finished off the set 6-3.
Down 1-0 in the second set, Fenty/Ehrenschneider won five straight points to again earn a 5-1 advantage. The Ducks held serve in the next game but could not handle the serve of Fenty and the finish by Ehrenschneider as they closed it out 6-2.
This is the first time since 2011 that a Michigan doubles pair has advanced out of the first round.
Fenty/Ehrenschneider will continue on to the Round of 16 on Wednesday (May 25) to face Wake Forest’s No. 35-ranked team of Jakob Schnaitter and Siddhant Banthia at 6:30 p.m. CDT.
