PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Rutgers women’s tennis team wrapped up day one at the Brown Invitational in Providence, Rhode Island on Friday afternoon. The Scarlet Knights faced Dartmouth, collecting seven wins to advance in the tournament.
Doubles pair Minchae Kim and Karina Jumazhanova went 2-0 on the day, winning their doubles match and each collecting a singles win.
Doubles
Mai Nguyen and Zeynep Ilker took down Lexi Dewire and Elizabeth Fahrmeier by a score of 6-3.
Kim and Jumazhanova won their fourth doubles match, which is tied for the team lead. The defeated Valentina Cruz and Caroline Lemcke, 6-4.
Singles
After winning her doubles match, Nguyen also had a perfect day, beating Carolina Lemcke 6-4, 6-2.
Kim dominated her match only losing one game against Cruz, 6-1, 6-0.
After losing her first set 6-7 (4), Jackie Lopez came storming back in the second, 6-2, and won the tie breaker 10-7 to come out on top over Fahrmeier.
Jumazhanova battled in her first set winning, 7-6 (5), before clinching the match in the second set, 6-1.
