Dores Eliminated from NCAAs

Waco, Texas — The No. 29 ranked doubles pair of senior Célia-Belle Mohr and freshman Sophia Webster suffered a 6-3, 6-2 defeat to North Carolina’s Susanna Maltby and Carson Tanguilig at the NCAA Championships on Thursday.

The opening moments of the match were even as the first set went to a 2-2 tie. The Tar Heels began to pull away soon after. Maltby and Tanguilig jumped out to a 5-2 lead before the Dores were able to respond, ultimately taking the first set 6-3. Although Mohr and Webster tallied 15 serve points to UNC’s 10, the pair committed four doubles faults and allowed four break points in the losing set.

The Dores showed flashes in the second set, with the score again knotted early at 2-2. The duo could not generate momentum from there. Despite committing no errors in the frame, Mohr and Webster dropped the remaining four games. The Tar Heels out served the Dore duo in points 13 to 10, including two aces, and executed three break points to Vanderbilt’s one.

The Dores look to bounce back in the upcoming spring season, with a return to the court in early 2025. For more information and updates on the women’s tennis team, follow @VandyWTennis on Instagram and X.
