Balus & Coleman Earn NCAA Doubles Invitation


CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – With their victory on Saturday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Sectionals, Duke women’s tennis doubles tandem of Irina Balus and Ellie Coleman earned a NCAA Doubles Championship invitation. 
 
Duke’s duo came-from-behind to earn a 1-6, 6-4, 10-2 win against Penn’s Esha Velaga and Lara Stojanovski in the semifinals.  With the finals appearance, it automatically earned the Blue Devil tandem the NCAA bid.
 
Balus will now compete in the NCAA Championship in both singles and doubles, while Coleman will see action in doubles with Balus and sophomore Eleana Yu in singles.  The NCAA competition will take place Nov. 18-24 in Waco, Texas. 
 
Duke senior Emma Jackson saw her run in singles come to an end in the quarterfinals with a 2-6, 3-6 decision to 10th-ranked Sarah Hamner of South Carolina.
