Five Things to Know: Wisconsin Takes Part in the Fighting Irish Mini Duals


MADISON, Wisc – Four members of the Wisconsin men’s tennis team are heading in South Bend, Ind., to compete in the Fighting Irish Mini Duals hosted by the University of Notre Dame. Taking place from Nov. 1 – Nov. 3, the three-day tournament is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. on Friday morning at the Eck Tennis Pavilion, with matches set to run through Sunday afternoon.

Here are five things to know before the tournament begins:

1. BREAKING DOWN THE DUALS: The tournament will feature players competing in pairs, engaging in a mini dual-match format that begins with a doubles set followed by two singles matches. Teams must win two out of three matches to advance. Each pair will participate in four singles and four doubles matches during the event. Sachiv Kumar, Edouard Aubert, Oliver Ollsson, and Tomas Zlatholavek will be representing the Badgers in Indiana.

2. SINCE THE LAST MATCH: In their last tournament, five Badgers advanced from the qualifying singles, with Beduhn, Meszaros, and Olsson moving on to the main draw. In the main draw, Michael Minasyan defeated a Notre Dame opponent and then Illinois’ Zachary Viiala, before losing in the round of 16 to Michigan’s Gavin Young. Doubles action featured new team pairings, with only the duo of Beduhn and Matthew Fullerton winning in the round of 64, before being defeated by Ohio State.

3. KNOWING THE OPPONENTS: The Badgers will compete against ten tennis teams from across the nation, covering a wide range of schools including prominent Big Ten opponents: Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois, Northwestern, Ohio State, and Indiana. In their recent tournaments, the Badgers have claimed victories against players from Northwestern, Illinois, DePaul, Notre Dame, and Ohio State.
