CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois women’s tennis team is headed back to Texas for the TCU Jae Foundation Fall Open from Oct. 31-Nov. 2 in Fort Worth, Texas. Six Fighting Illini student-athletes will represent the Orange and Blue at the event, as everyone except Violeta Martinez and McKenna Schaefbauer is making the trip. Action will take place at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
The weekend outing will feature hidden dual match format. In total, 18 teams are expected to be represented at TCU, including BYU, Notre Dame, Arizona, the Illini, Maryland, Rice, Texas A&M, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Baylor, SMU, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas Tech, Cincinnati, Kansas, LSU, and the host Horned Frogs.
Following this weekend’s action, Illinois will have two more opportunities to qualify for the NCAA Individual Championships in November. The ITA Conference Masters (Nov. 7-10) will have a draw size of 32 singles and 32 doubles, with the four singles semifinalists and the top three doubles teams qualifying for NCAAs. The ITA Sectional Championship (Nov. 7-10) will have a draw size of 32 singles and 16 doubles – six singles players from each section (24 total) and three doubles teams from each section (12 total) will qualify for NCAAs. The NCAA Individual Championships will take place from Nov. 19-24 at Baylor University.
