TULSA, Okla. – USC’s Peter Makk ended his time at the ITA All-American Championship after falling in the singles main draw consolation bracket on Friday, Sept. 17.
The Trojans sent two individuals to the ITA All-American Championship this season – senior Karl Lee and senior Makk – and came away with a pair of wins throughout the qualifying and main draw. Lee earned a spot in the tournament on the qualifying side, where he secured a first-round victory over Miami’s #58 Antonio Prat, before falling in the second round to Baylor’s Marko Miladinovic.
Makk earned his spot automatically in the main draw thanks to his preseason #38 ranking from the ITA. The senior upset #7 Gavin Young (Michigan) in the first round of the singles main draw with a come-from-behind 2-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory. Makk fell in the next round to Miami’s #43 Martin Katz 6-4, 6-3.
Makk would have one more shot in the consolation round as he faced Denver’s #94 Daniel Sancho Arbizu. Makk took the first set, but Sancho Arbizu would take the rest as Makk went down 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 to end his time at the tournament.
