NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The ninth-ranked Tennessee men’s tennis team took care of business against in-state foe No. 56 Vanderbilt on the road Sunday afternoon, 6-1, at The Ensworth School.
The Vols (17-4, 6-1 SEC) fought to claim the doubles point over the Commodores (11-8, 2-5 SEC) behind a 6-2 effort from the seventh-ranked duo of Johannus Monday and Angel Diaz over Joubert Klopper and Michael Ross, ranked 54th as a pair, at the No. 1 spot. After VU notched a 6-4 victory on court three, Shunsuke Mitsui and Filip Pieczonka, ranked 20th in the nation, battled to overcome Jeremie Casabon and Nathan Cox in a 7-3 tiebreaker at 6-all.
Fifth-ranked Monday cranked out the first singles win for UT, defeating No. 85 Danil Panarin, 6-4, 6-2, atop the lineup. In his SEC debut, Nicolas Kobelt took down Ross in 7-6(4), 6-1 fashion on court four. Diaz clinched the match for the Vols with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Hugo Coquelin on court six.
VU posted its only point of the day with a win on court two. No. 109 Pieczonka, routed Casabon 7-6(3), 6-3 at the No. 5 spot, while Chris Li secured a gritty 7-6(7), 4-6, 10-8 win over Cox on court three to round out singles play.

Li is currently on a six-match winning streak in SEC play and holds a 7-1 record at the No. 3 spot for Tennessee.
JOMO VS. RANKED OPPONENTS
Monday tallied his 50th career win over a ranked opponent with his straight-set victory over VU’s No. 85 Danil Panarin. The senior boasts an impressive 10-0 mark over top-10 ranked opponents and is three singles victories shy of eclipsing 100 career wins.
ANGEL AND JOMO AT NO. 1
Diaz and Monday, ranked seventh in the nation as a pair, registered their 10th dual match victory of 2024 with their 6-2 effort over the Commodores’ No. 54 Klopper and Ross. The duo holds a 6-1 record vs. ranked opponents this season.
