DURHAM, N.C. – Seventh-ranked NC State women’s tennis (17-4, 8-3 ACC) falls 3-4 on the road in a heartbreaking match to No. 6 Duke (22-2, 11-1 ACC).
No. 10 Diana Shnaider and Alana Smith paired back up on court one after Shnaider recently spent time competing in a professional tournament. Duke’s Chloe Beck and Ellie Coleman shut down their valiant efforts to try and secure a doubles win for the Wolfpack, finishing in a 4-6 loss.
Meanwhile, on court two, No. 11 Nell Miller and Amelia Rajecki were staging the perfect comeback when their play was halted at 6-6.
Despite a close battle on all three courts, Duke pulled the doubles point when Sophie Abrams and Abigail Rencheli lost on court three 4-6 to Georgia Drummy and Iuliia Bryzgalova.
Gina Dittmann was the first win of the day for the Wolfpack when she rallied through her first set 7-5 to close in two straight with a 6-4 finish.
No. 13 Smith racked up another ranked win in singles over Duke’s No. 76 Cameron Morra when she had to retire in the third set.
On court three, No. 28 Rajecki also tallied a ranked victory over No. 34 Emma Jackson after dropping the second set, causing a third.
Duke clinched their victory when No. 121 Georgia Drummy defeated No. 65 Abigail Rencheli in three sets on court four.
