#7 Tennessee Takes Down Ole Miss, 5-2


OXFORD, Miss. – The seventh-ranked Tennessee men’s tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches in a strong 5-2 effort over No. 59 Ole Miss on Sunday afternoon at Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center.
 
The Vols (21-4, 10-1 SEC) secured the doubles point over the Rebels (9-13, 2-9 SEC) thanks to the eighth-ranked duo of Johannus Monday and Angel Diaz’s 6-4 victory over Nikola Slavic and Lukas Engelhardt at the No 1 spot. Younes Lalami and Filip Apltauer cranked out a 7-5 win over Isac Stromberg and Noah Schlagenhauf on court three to give UT a 1-point advantage.
 
Chris Li posted Tennessee’s first singles win of the day, routing Stromberg 6-1, 6-4 on court three. Mitsui, ranked 37th in singles, took down John Hallquist Lithen 6-4, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. Diaz clinched the match with a three-setter over Carson Baker on court six, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
 
Fourth-ranked Monday extended the Vols’ lead to 5-0 in 7-6(3), 6-4 fashion over No. 53 Slavic atop the lineup to reach his 100th career singles victory. Ole Miss finished with two wins on courts five and four
 
JOMO HITS 100
Johannus Monday eclipsed the 100 career singles win mark with his straight-set effort over the Rebels’ 53rd-ranked Nikola Slavic. The senior holds an impressive .806 winning percentage during his time at UT and boasts a 42-6 career mark atop the Vols’ lineup. His Sunday triumph marks his 15th victory over a ranked opponent this season and his 20th conference win of 2024.
 
DOMINATING IN CONFERENCE PLAY
UT currently sits in second place in the SEC with a 10-1 record, right behind Kentucky (10-0). The Vols are on a six-match winning streak with one conference match left in the regular season.
 
UP NEXT
UT will wrap up conference play with a top-10 matchup at No. 4 Kentucky on April 14 at Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex in Lexington. First serve is slated for 1 p.m. ET.
