5 Things to Know: Badgers Head to the ITA Regional Championships


EAST LANSING, Mich – Seven members of the Wisconsin men’s tennis team will compete in the coveted ITA Midwest Regional Championships taking place Oct. 10 – Oct. 14 at the Michigan State University. Players will participate in both singles and doubles events.

Here are five things to know before the tournament begins:

1. MIXING UP THE DOUBLES PAIRS: Wisconsin is set to debut new doubles partnerships at the team’s second fall season tournament. Notably, the powerhouse duo, Michael Minasyan and Patrik Meszaros, will be split up. Minasyan will be paired with his sophomore counterpart, Oliver Olsson and Patrik Meszaros will compete with the seasoned second-year, Matthew Fullerton. Additionally, freshmen Edouard Aubert and Sachiv Kumar will be competing alongside each other for their first tournament.  

 

2. LOOKING BACK AT MILWAUKEE: In the doubles category, Michael Minasyan and Patrik Meszaros reached the finals through the main draw, showcasing strong performances before falling in the final match against Ohio State. Meanwhile, Patrik Meszaros also shined in his first collegiate tournament, earning four singles victories, including notable wins over competitors from Notre Dame and Ohio State.

 

3. PAST ITA MIDWEST REGIONALS: The team previously competed in the ITA Midwest Regional Championships during the 2023 fall season. Oliver Olsson, Collin Beduhn, Matthew Fullerton, and Tomas Zlatohlavek performed outstandingly in the singles qualifying rounds, achieving a collective 8-0 record and securing places in the Main Draw. Badger alumni and now assistant coach, Gabriel Huber, and Oliver Olsson advanced to the doubles quarterfinals before a tight loss to Illinois.
