CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois women’s tennis is set for another challenging schedule as the Orange and Blue’s 2024 slate has been announced. The upcoming season features 12 home matches for the Illini from Atkins Tennis Center.
Illinois’ spring slate features matches against 14 ranked opponents from the most recent ITA Collegiate Tennis Team Rankings. Those teams include No. 10 Ohio State, No. 11 Duke, No. 13 Oklahoma, No. 21 Washington, No. 22 Wisconsin, No. 32 California, No. 39 UCF, No. 40 Charlotte, No. 43 Iowa, No. 49 Purdue, No. 52 Maryland, No. 59 Nebraska, No. 63 Northwestern, No. 65 Ole Miss, No. 66 Penn State, and No. 68 Indiana. In addition to a tilt against either No. 13 Oklahoma or No. 39 UCF at ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Illinois comes in at No. 34 in the current team poll.
Spring play opens at home for the Orange and Blue this season as Missouri visits for Braggin’ Rights on Sunday, Jan. 14. From there, the Illini will head to Durham, N.C., where they’ll face Charlotte (Jan. 19) and Duke (Jan. 20) before the squad heads west to Norman, Okla., for the ITA Kickoff Weekend hosted by Oklahoma. Illinois will face California on January 27 before facing either Oklahoma or UCF the following day to wrap up January action.
February features four home dual matches along with the ITA Women’s National Indoors (Feb. 9-12) and the Blue Gray Classic (Feb. 23-24). Illinois hosts two weekends of double dual action as Cincinnati (Feb. 10) and Ole Miss (Feb. 11) visit Atkins Tennis Center. The following weekend, Brown (Feb. 17) and Marshall (Feb. 18) will visit before Illinois heads out to the Blue Gray Classic in Montgomery, Ala., to close the month.
Illinois has six dual matches slated for April with four taking place at home. Future Big Ten opposition Washington kicks off the slate from Atkins Tennis Center on March 1. Two weeks later, the Illini will host Maryland (March 15) and Rutgers (March 17). The following weekend, Illinois will hit the road for a swing at Iowa (March 22) and Nebraska (March 24). April will close with a match against Northwestern on March 30.
April will open with a tilt at home against Minnesota on April 5 before Evan Clark‘s squad heads up to Wisconsin on April 7. Back for its final home weekend, Illinois will host Indiana (April 12) and Purdue for Senior Day on April 14. The regular season…
