#18 Tennessee Shuts Out #34 Ole Miss in 4-0 Triumph


KNOXVILLE, Tenn.  – The No. 18 Tennessee Women’s tennis team executed a 4-0 sweep against No. 34 Ole Miss on Friday afternoon at Barksdale Stadium. The squad took the doubles point and then posted all three singles victories to secure the shutout against the Rebels. Friday’s victory marked the eighth time this season the Lady Volunteers have tallied a sweep, including the third time over an SEC foe.

“Just excited to get on and off the court,” Head coach Alison Ojeda said. ” We knew this was a very dangerous team. They work hard and are well-coached, but in order for us to get on and off the court was critical. Happy for our team.”

Tennessee (14-6, 6-4 SEC) displayed an impressive doubles outing, registering victories on courts one and two against Ole Miss  (10-8, 4-6). The No. 70-ranked pair of Esther Adeshina and Alana Wolfberg etched a 6-1 win against Anaelle Leclercq and Ludmila Kareisova. The 16-ranked duo of Sofia Cabezas and Elza Tomase secured the doubles point with a 6-3 result against Ava Hrastar and Briana Crowley.

After the Lady Vols claimed a 1-0 lead, the squad tallied three singles wins to clinch the match. Adeshina notched a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Emma Kette. Tomase landed a 6-1, 6-3 victory against  Ludmilla Kareisova. Catherine Aulia sealed the match up with a triumph against Briana Crowley, 6-3, 6-2.

Three singles matches went unfinished for the Lady Vols. No. 16 Cabezas was fighting back in a 2-6, 4-2 affair against Ava Hrastar. Wolfberg locked up her first set in a tight tiebreaker against Anaelle Leclercq taking an early 7-6 (5), 1-0 lead. Lauren Anzalotta concluded her unfinished affair with a 6-4, 1-1 score versus Reka Zadori.

NEXT UP:

The Lady Vols will continue playing at home, as they prepare to face Mississippi State on Sunday at Barksdale Stadium with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m.
