TUCSON, Ariz. – #18 Arizona swept #26 UCLA 4-0 at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center on Friday, March 31 in front of in front of a standing-room-only crowd.
The Wildcats snagged today’s doubles point in an intense tiebreaker on court two after an hour long competition. Gustaf Strom and Eric Padgham finished first at three doubles, defeating Jeffrey Fradkin and Aadarsh Tripathi 6-3 in front of a roaring crowd of ‘Cat fans. #73 doubles duo Jonas Ziverts and Jay Friend fell 5-7 to Timothy Li and Giacomo Revelli at one doubles. Nick Lagaev and Colton Smith came back to tie their match 6-6 against Stefan Leustian and Patrick Zahraj before clinching the point 7-5 to give Arizona the first point of the day. The junior and sophomore pair are undefeated in doubles with a 6-0 record after their win against the Bruins.
Leading with the advantage, the Wildcats picked up three straight set singles wins to solidify their fourth victory ever against the Westwood L.A. school. #45 Ziverts swiftly defeated Revelli 6-2 in both sets at two doubles. The Swedish captain is now 10-3 in spring singles play. Then Dominque Rolland put the ‘Cats one point away from the sweep after his victory on court six. The freshman bested Leustian 6-4, 6-1 and is now 3-0 in dual matches. Strom was two for two in both of his matches today and clinched for Arizona at three singles, beating Tripathi 6-2, 6-1.
Men’s Tennis is now 16-4 overall, 2-1 in Pac-12 play and undefeated at home. They host #9 USC on Sunday, April 2 at 1 p.m. MT for the last time at LaNelle Robson Tennis Center before the Trojans make the transition to the Big Ten conference.
