SPOKANE, Wash. (Sept. 25, 2022) – The Washington State Tennis team concluded play at the Gonzaga Invitational, capturing five of nine matches Sunday afternoon at the Stevens Center.
The Gonzaga Invitational was played in a hidden dual format, where six singles matches are contested against one school and three doubles matches against another. Sunday saw the Cougars face New Mexico in doubles and Gonzaga in singles.
In singles action, WSU was tested by the Bulldogs as the two teams split the six matches. The Cougars received wins from freshman Eva Alvarez Sande and sophomores Elyse Tse and Stefaniia Mikhailova, the latter needing three sets for her victory. Sophomore Maxine Murphy and freshman Yura Nakagawa each fell in tight, three-set matches while junior Fifa Kumhom lost a straight-set decision.
In doubles action, the Cougars won two of three matches, Yang Lee and Alvarez Sande along with the WSU duo of Kumhom and Tse each positive victories.
