UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women’s tennis team (5-14, 4-5) will finish regular season play with two matches this weekend. The team will play Illinois on Friday, April 19 at 3 p.m. and compete against Northwest on Sunday, April 21 at noon.
The match on Friday will be Pet Day. Be sure to bring your furry friends to the match.
The match on Sunday will be Senior Day. The team’s five seniors, Danielle Alamo, Sofiya Chekhlystova, Karly Friedland, Alina Lebedeva and Alexandra Nielsen will be honored prior to the start of the match.
LAST TIME OUT
The Blue and White faced two tough losses on the road this past weekend. The team fell to Nebraska and No. 61 Iowa. Both matches were dropped 4-0.
Penn State looks to rebound this weekend at home.
INFORMATION ON ILLINOIS
The No. 35 Illinois women’s tennis team is 15-7 on the season and 7-2 in Big Ten play. The team’s last match was a ranked win over No. 58 Purdue, 4-1.
The Fighting Illini have two ranked doubles pairs. At No. 72, Megan Heuser and Kate Duong are ranked. Heuser is a part of another ranked pair at No. 73 with Alice Xu.
KNOWING NORTHWESTERN
The No. 34 Northwestern women’s tennis team is 17-5 overall and 8-1 in conference play. The team’s last match was a 4-0 sweep over Indiana.
Before playing the Nittany Lions, the Wildcats will travel to Columbus to play against No. 15 Ohio State.
Northwestern has one ranked singles player in Justine Leong at No. 104. Leong is also a part of a ranked doubles pair with Christina Hand at No. 55.
