COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina women’s tennis wrapped up prequalifying rounds at the ITA All-America Championships on Sunday at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C. Junior transfer Kaitlyn Carnicella closed the weekend with a win in the consolation bracket Sunday. Senior Sarah Hamner is still set to play in the main draw, which begins on Wed., Sept. 25.
In the tournament’s opening matches, Carnicella and senior Olympe Lancelot narrowly missed advancing in tough third-set tiebreaks. Carnicella dropped her first set to Ohio State’s Teah Chavez but rallied in the second to send it to a third set. The two battled to a 6-6- stalemate before Chavez surged into the second round with a 6-3, 3-6, 7- (1) decision.
Lancelot opened the tournament winning the first set against Denver’s Andrea Beltran before dropping the second. The match went to a tiebreak in the decisive third, which Beltran dominated for her 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (0) victory.
In Sunday’s consolation matches, Carnicella turned things around to score a commanding 6-4, 6-2 win over Michigan State’s Matilde Morais. Lancelot fell in another tough three-set outing after claiming her second set against Texas’ Shachf Liberman

Under the new format for NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships, players and doubles teams in the ITA All-American Championships can qualify right into the NCAA Championships bracket. From singles, eight main draw quarterfinalists and two feed-in consolation finalists will punch their ticket directly into the NCAA Singles Championships. The four main draw doubles semifinalists will join them in the NCAA Doubles Championships.
