UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women’s tennis team defeated No. 73 Rutgers is a close match 4-3.
DOUBLES
The Nittany Lions dropped the doubles point to put Rutgers up, 1-0.
Olivia Dorner and Karly Friedland fell in their doubles match, 6-1, to Yana Gurevich and Mai Nguyen.
Yvonne Zuffova and Sofiya Chekhlystova rallied in their match to tie the Scarlet Knights in doubles match win. They defeated Tara Chilton and Minchae Kim, 6-3.
On court 3, Jordina Cegarra and Alina Lebedeva ultimately lost their match, 6-4, versus Amira Badawi and Naomi Karki.
SINGLES
The Blue and White won four singles matches to clinch the victory over No. 73 Rutgers.
Sofiya Chekhlystova easily defeated Yana Gurevich, 6-2, 6-1.
Karly Friedland declared victory over Minchae Kim, 6-0, 6-1.
Jordina Cegarra fought hard in her second set to win her match, 6-1, 7-5, over Jackeline Lopez.
Olivia Dorner clinched the match for the Nittany Lions by defeating Amira Badawi, 7-5, 4-6, 6-4.
UP NEXT
The Nittany Lions will continue Big Ten play on Sunday against Maryland at noon. An egg hunt will take place to allow fans a chance to win prizes.
