Women's Tennis Wins 4-3 over Virginia Tech


Blacksburg, Va. – The No. 1 Ranked Carolina women’s tennis team knocked off Virginia Tech 4-3 Sunday Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center. The Heels move to 16-0 in dual match season, and 2-0 in ACC play.
 
The Tar Heels got under way in Blacksburg follow a 30-minute delay to play due to wet courts. The tandem of Reese Brantmeier and Elizabeth Scotty got the party started with a 6-0 win over Virginia Tech’s Andreini/Radulova on court 1.
 
The No. 4 tag-team of Fiona Crawley and Carson Tanguilig defeated Cheng/Uslu of Virginia Tech 6-2 to take the 1-0 lead over the Hokies.
 
Carolina got things started in singles behind No. 1 Fiona Crawley defeated. Dariya Radulova of Virginia Tech 6-1, 6-0 taking the 2-0 lead. No. 27 Reese Brantmeier netted the Tar heels the 3-0, defeating Özlem Uslu of Virginia Tech 6-1, 6-2 on court 2.
 
The Heels clinched the match on court 2 as No. 7 Carson Tanguilig took down Tamara Barad Itzhaki 6-1, 6-2 to give the Heels the 4-0 lead.
 
The Hokies got on the board on court 4 as Semra Aksu defeated No. 75 Reilly Tran 6-4, 1-6, 0-0 (10-7) in the third set tiebreak. Court five game the Hokies 2 team points, as Erika Cheng knocked off Sara McClure 6-1, 6-3.
 
The final point of the match went to Virginia Tech as Katie Andreini defeated Lindsey Zink 3-6, 6-4, 0-0 (11-9) to win the 10-point tiebreak to give the Hokies 3 points.
 
Following a weekend slate of ACC road games in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the Tar Heels return home to Chapel Hill to face Louisville on Friday, March 3rd at 5 p.m. and Notre Dame on Sunday, March 5th at 1 p.m. Locations of those matches will be determined as weekend weather continues to be monitored.
