Women’s Tennis to Host Northern Arizona

TEMPE, Ariz.-  To cap off their three-match homestand, the Sun Devils will host in-state opponent Northern Arizona (Wednesday, March 13 at 1:30 p.m. MST) this week.

The Sun Devils last played the Lumberjacks back in January 2023, where they picked up a 7-0 win at home.

SUN DEVIL NOTABLES (7-6, 0-2 Pac-12)

  • The Sun Devils were ranked No. 33 in the latest polls. Giulia Morlet (No. 87) and Emilija Tverijonaite (No. 103) are ranked nationally in singles.
  • Over the weekend, the Sun Devils opened up conference play, as they fell to No. 3 Stanford and No. 17 California.
  • With Giulia Morlet nursing a calf strain, the Sun Devils have had to shake up their lineup in the last two matches and had received subsequent performances from Rachel Hanford alongside Sara Svetac as they picked up a 7-6 (2) doubles win against the No. 60-ranked pair in the country against Stanford.
  • The doubles team of Patricija Spaka/Chelsea Fontenel leads the Sun Devils with seven wins this season and is coming off two ranked wins this weekend. On Friday, they took down No. 54 Connie Ma/ Alexandra Yepifanov of Stanfor, 7-6 (2), and on Saturday they ended their weekend with an impressive 6-2 win over No. 14 Hannah Viller Moeller/Mao Mushika of Cal.
  • Freshman Emilija Tverijonaite leads the team with seven singles wins this season, playing primarily on Court 4. In the last two matches, Tverijonaite has slid up to Court 3 and added a singles win on Saturday.

PREVIEWING THE LUMBERJACKS (3-5, 0-1 Big Sky)

  • The Lumberjacks are led by sixth-year head coach Ewa Bogusz. Under Bogusz, a two-time Big Sky Coach of the Year, NAU has appeared in three NCAA Tournaments (2019, 2021, 2022).
  • NAU picked up a ranked win over No. 69 UNLV, 4-3, on March 3. Daryna Shoshyna was named the Big Sky Player of the Week on March 6 for her efforts against UNLV and Utah Tech.
