Women’s Tennis to Host No. 7 Buckeyes


TEMPE, Ariz.- Sun Devil Women’s Tennis will end their four-match homestand against No. 7 Ohio State (6-3) on Sunday, February 25 at 11 a.m. MST.

Sun Devil Notables (6-3)

  • Arizona State won its most recent match on Sunday in a 4-0 sweep over Cal Poly. Emilija Tverijonaite and Marianna Argyrokastriti clinched the doubles point on court three for the Sun Devils. ASU picked up three straight singles victories from Giulia Morlet, Tverijonaite, and Patricija Spaka to win the match against the Mustangs.
  • The Sun Devils are 5-1 on the season at Whiteman Tennis Center to begin the season. They had their first undefeated season at home in school history last season and have a 39-4 record at Whiteman since 2021.
  • ASU has two ranked in ITA’s singles rankings with Morlet at No. 75 and freshman Emilija Tverijonaite ranked No. 104.
  • Spaka and Morlet lead the way for ASU in singles wins as each of them have six to begin the season.
  • Chasing 600: Head coach Sheila McInerney picked up her 580th career win in her 40th season with the Sun Devils against Cal Poly.

Previewing No. 7 Ohio State (6-3)

  • Ohio State reached the quarterfinals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Seattle over the weekend after coming back to beat No. 8 Georgia, 4-3.
  • Ohio State has three ranked players in the ITA singles rankings: Irina Cantos Siemers (No. 15), Luciana Perry (No. 68), and Sydni Ratliff (No. 115). They also have two ranked doubles pairs: Perry/Ratliff (No. 32) and Perry/Siemers (No. 36).
  • Head coach Melissa Schaub has led the Buckeyes since 2012, winning Big Ten Coach of the Year honors four times.
  • The Buckeyes made history in their 4-0 victory over No. 13 UCLA on February 4. The win was No. 225 of head coach Melissa Schaub’s coaching career, making her the program’s all-time wins leader. Captain Irina Cantos Siemers also became the school’s leader in singles wins with 113
