Women's Tennis Starts 2023 Ranked No. 2


The North Carolina women’s tennis team will begin the 2023 spring season ranked No. 2 according to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (“ITA”) has released today the NCAA Division I Women’s Preseason Top 25 Coaches Poll sponsored by Tennis-Point released on Wednesday.

This marks the fifth year in a row the Tar Heels begin a season ranked among the top 3 teams in the nation. Carolina was picked third in 2019, No. 2 in 2020, No. 1 in 2021 and No. 3 in 2022.

North Carolina will start the season at the No. 2 spot, earning five of the possible first-place votes in the Jan. 4 Preseason Rankings. The Tar Heels enter the season with the No. 1 ranked singles player in the nation as well as the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the nation after a spectacular fall season.

 

The ACC’s ranked teams include UNC (2), NC State (3), Duke (6), Virginia (7), and Georgia Tech (25).

The coaches poll is voted on by the ITA National Rankings Committee, a committee made up of the 12 ITA Region Chairs.

Carolina opens the spring season Friday, Jan. 13 at 3:30 p.m. hosting Elon on the indoor courts at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Heels will then play host to Appalachian State on Saturday, Jan. 14 at 2 p.m.
