Women’s Tennis Splits Doubleheader, Collects Win over Bucknell

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women’s tennis team (4-5) split their doubleheader against Penn and Bucknell on Sunday at the Penn State Indoor Tennis Center. The Nittany Lions dropped a 4-0 match to the Quakers before earning a dominant 6-1 win over the Bisons. 

“Every girl out there played their heart out in both matches,” said sophomore Danielle Alamo. “We had our ups and down, but I believe if we keeo the energy up it’s going to be a great season. I think we show that every day, day in, day out.”

PENN 4, PENN STATE 0 

DOUBLES 

The Quakers clinched the doubles point with wins on courts one and three.  

Gabby O’Gorman and Alexandra Nielsen collected the lone doubles win for the Nittany Lions in a 6-4 decision over Penn’s Gavriella Smitha and Amanda Chan. 

Olivia Ryan and Yvonne Zuffova lost to Iuliia Bryzgalova and Marija Curnic, 6-2 at No. 1. On court three, Karly Friedland and Deanna Lasorda dropped a hardfought 7-5 match to Sabine Rutlauka and Eileen Wang.  

SINGLES 

Penn secured their victory with wins on courts one, two, and four. 

On court one, Zuffova battled Penn’s Iuliia Bryzgalova. Zuffova took the first set 6-2, but dropped the next two. At No. 2, Gabby O’Gorman fell to Sabina Rutlauka 6-4, 6-0. The Quakers clinched the match on court four, where Alexandra Nielsen lost to Gavriella Smith in a 6-4, 6-3 decision.
