SOUTH BEND, Ind. – On Wednesday, Notre Dame Women’s Tennis head coach Alison Silverio announced two new signees in the class of 2025, Sophia Holod and MariLouise van Zyl.
“We are thrilled to welcome Mari and Sophia to our team,” head coach Alison Silverio said on the signees Wednesday.
Holod, a blue-chip recruit from East Setauket, NY, has been ranked as high as #17 in the nation on TennisRecruiting.net, and #8 in the USTA Girls’ 18 and under national rankings. She was honored at the 2024 US Open as USTA Eastern’s most outstanding player.
“Sophia brings unwavering commitment to her education, personal development, and tennis,” Silverio said of Holod. “Her fierce competitiveness and relentless drive for excellence make her a fantastic addition to our team.”
van Zyl, a native of Potchefstroom, South Africa, joins the Irish after decorated junior career, where she achieved a career-high ITF junior ranking of 190 in the world. She has also represented South Africa in numerous international competitions and holds a WTA ranking.
“MariLouise demonstrates a passion for growth, leadership, and team spirit,” Silverio added regarding van Zyl. “Her determination to be a champion on the court, in the classroom, and in the community perfectly reflects the values of our program.
