Women's Tennis Set to Host Xavier & Penn State


CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Fighting Illini Women’s Tennis (4-3) is set for another two-match weekend as Illinois opens the action hosting Xavier (3-4) on Friday, at 5 p.m. CT. On Sunday, the Illini will continue their home slate against Penn State (6-3) at 12 p.m. CT, opening Big Ten play. All the action is free from Atkins Tennis Center.

Last Time Out

Last weekend the Illini put up a strong performance with back-to-back wins over Missouri and Illinois State. The Illini swept the Braggin’ Rights matchup before taking down the Redbirds, 5-2.

Illini vs. The Field

Illinois and Xavier will meet for the first time in program history with Friday’s match. 

The Illini own a dominant 26-4 record over the Nittany Lions, however, Penn State did claim a 4-3 victory over UI last season on April 10, 2022 in University Park.

Illini Notes

Head coach Evan Clark is in his eighth year as the head coach of Illinois women’s tennis and holds an overall dual record of 101-70 (.591) and is 50-25 (.667) in Big Ten play during his time as an Illini.

The Illini are coming off a 16-9 season with an 8-3 Big Ten record in 2021-22.

Illinois returns seven of its eight players from last season, including seniors Emily Casati, Josie Frazier, and Ashley Yeah; junior Kate Duong; and sophomores Kida Ferrari, Megan Heuser, and Kasia Treiber. The Illini also welcomed new freshman Violeta Martinez to the squad.
