DURHAM – The 18th-ranked Duke women’s tennis team returned home Friday and registered an impressive 6-1 victory over 46th-ranked Syracuse inside the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham, N.C.
The Blue Devils moved to 7-4 overall and 1-2 in ACC action, while the Orange dropped to 7-3, 2-2.
How It Happened
- Syracuse jumped out to a hot start in doubles as the Orange held a 2-1 lead on all three courts.
- The Blue Devils were able to turn it around on courts two and three though with big runs.
- On court two, Duke’s tandem of Emma Jackson and Karolina Berankova won five straight games against Emilie Elde and Shiori to take the match, 6-2.
- After dropping a controversial deuce point to open the match on court three, Duke’s Iuliia Bryzgalova and Brianna Shvets trailed 0-2 at the start against Anastasia Sysoevea and Constance Levivier.After winning back-to-back games, the Blue Devil duo won two straight deuce points to take a 4-2 lead and eventually clinched the doubles point with a 6-2 victory.
- Shavit Kimchi and Katie Codd were in a tight match on the first court with Miyuka Kimoto and Viktoryia Kanapatskaya when the doubles point was clinched.
- The Blue Devils kept the momentum in singles by winning the first set on five of the six courts.
